Vintage re-do

Chelsea from Italian Postcards introduced me to the wonderful world of polyvore by asking :

Do you polyvore?

Do I what? Well I didn't, but now I do. I SO do. My first collage of items above featuring Tory Burch Leather frame handbag, Roberto Cavalli Serpent Bangle and my favorite 40's inspired pumps, re-created in vintage below. Going into the shop today! Like I needed another way to lose some real world time!






A girly polka dot skirt paired with a mens wear soft as all get out chambray shirt. Lots of timeless vintage accessories and
a little serpent brooch with ruby eyes for a touch of edginess.

Macrame Accessories: Patterns and Ideas for Knotting” by Dona Z. Meilach (1972)

It seems I have a thing for Macrame. Part nautical, part Victorian and part Nordic, It's believed to have originated with 13th-century Arab weavers. The word is derived from the Arabic migramah, which means "striped towel," "ornamental fringe" or "embroidered veil."

Of course my first experience with macrame was the woven rope hanging baskets lining the front porch of every house in town when I was small or the occasional wall hanging, but I now have a new appreciation for square knot work and am on the look out for a modern style accent piece for my home and a bag large enough for the daily haul!

What I learned today

I am constantly surprised by what I learn each day while researching the vintage items I find for the shop. Today I turned over the gold tone leaf belt buckle shown at top to find that it was signed Mimi di N.

Curious, I googled the name to find this-

"Mimi di N: Mimi di Niscemi was born in Palermo, Italy. She studied at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Arts which allowed her to work part-time for a jewelry manufacturer who produced Schiaparelli jewelry. Her skill afforded her the opportunity to work with Dutch silversmith Rudolph Broom at the Wichita Art Association. She won a scholarship to the School of Applied Arts in Paris. In the 1950s she formed a partnership with Arnold Scaasi and produced pieces marked Jewels by Scaasi. In 1959 she joined Robert DeMario but soon moved to the New York bead house Brania where she made jewels marked Brania/Mimi di N. She opened her own jewelry firm in 1960 in New York City. She is still in business. and her pieces are marked Mimi di N. She married the grand nephew of Czar Nicholas II, Prince Alexander Romanoff. "

Another quick search through Etsy brought me to one avid collector of these Mimi di Niscemi belts buckles and her great shop!

I particularly love the fox belt buckle and makes me want the one I saw at Anthro a lot less.
